A Christian’s Response To The 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony

Earlier this week, the Olympic Games in Paris opened with a ceremony deemed offensive to Christianity. I won’t detail the event, as it’s widely covered in the news.

I’ve included a couple of YouTube videos at the end that offer various perspectives. Despite an apology from the Olympic Committee, many have taken to social media to announce their boycott, while others defended the ceremony, stating it was inspired by Greek mythology, not Christianity.

I commented on Facebook and received varied responses from friends. Given the uproar, I decided to share my thoughts here on my Wicked Darkness website. As a Christian aware of the world’s wickedness, I hope my perspective will interest you. John the Baptist eloquently expressed the ultimate goal of any Christian in John 3:30-31 (KJV): “He must increase, but I must decrease. He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.”

My Original Facebook Post

“As a Christian, I have seen many comments about the Olympics and their decision to make a mockery of the Last Supper of our Savior and Lord. I understand people’s frustration and anger over their decision, which was completely offensive to Christians.

If you read the Bible you understand that Jesus said, “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” So, nothing the world does should ever be shocking to a Christian. After all, the Roman Empire tossed Christians to the lions as sport.

If you are not a Christian and you have been told by people like those at the Olympics that all religions are the same. Ask yourself a simple question, “Why is it ALWAYS Jesus who is mocked?” Did they parade the Buddha, Mohammed or any Hindu gods to disrespect? Of course not, nor would they because the Bible explains that Satan is real and the god of this world.

There is only one man who died for the sins of the world. There is only one man who after being beaten, scorned, laughed at, mocked, was nailed to a cross had the inscription written above him “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS”. And there is only one man who said as one of his last breaths, while being murdered by an angry mob, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

And this needs to be our attitude as Christians towards the same angry mob. “Forgive them for they know not what they do.” They are mocking the Son of God who took a bullet for them.

Imagine someone jumping on a grenade and killing himself to save other people in battle and other people mocking him and making fun of him for doing it? That’s what they did. That’s what this world does. We wouldn’t think of them as evil, but ignorant. And Jesus saw this and loved them even in their stupidity.

This is what we are witnessing, just people who do not understand the truth and are lost people. We can only pray that they would see the error of their ways. We overcome evil with good.

If you are interested in hearing another perspective about what I am talking about I encourage you to listen to this interview.” I included a link to an interview by Russell Brand and if you’re interested you can watch it at the link at the bottom of this post.

The Facebook Response That Never Appeared

As I mentioned, I have had various responses and discussions about my post above. And I was going to post a follow-up comment, but I felt it was warranted to write a more detailed explanation of my position. That is why I decided to write this article at Wicked Darkness with the hope that it will reach more people than simply my followers on Facebook.

Here is my follow-up response for your consideration. I don’t expect most people to agree given the division from the enemy today, but if it reaches the one sheep who is lost among the ninety-nine it has served it’s purpose.

“Please allow me to say a few things for my friends in Christ to consider if any so choose. I can only share with you my perspective from my walk with the Lord.

In your zeal to protect the Alpha and Omega, be careful not to be like Peter, who cut off the soldiers’ ear, only to be rebuked by our Lord.

It’s quite tempting to be like James and John, who asked if they should call down fire from Heaven and burn up those who rejected Jesus only to be rebuked by our Lord. It’s all too easy to forget “what manner of spirit ye are of”..

Luke 9:55-56 – “But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

The one who rose from the dead, the Son of God, is more than capable of handling Egypt on His own without my coming to His defense. He is my Champion, and not the other way around. I have come to understand that apart from Him, I can do nothing.

Jesus plainly told me that when someone smacks me on my right cheek, I am to offer the left one also. It is far more difficult than smacking them back. Matthew 5:39“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” This requires obedience that goes beyond speaking out against evil.

I am far more concerned about this…

Mark 7:14-16And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

Jesus said that He was going to prepare a place for me, so this isn’t my home, but I am just passing through. I know our enemy is the god of this world. My enemy is not our fellow man who is made in the image and likeness of the Creator but has been blinded by the wicked darkness of this world.

Satan knows his time is short, so bring it on, and I will be here to sit back and watch the show. Jesus said some pretty outlandish things while He was here like the world would hate him and me too if I followed Him, that I should love my neighbor, that I should forgive others, for some reason, I believed Him. He is still speaking today, He hasn’t changed His mind.

People are willfully ignorant. Unfortunately, most are just deceived. It’s my job to point people to the only one who can save them. It is my job to do my best to convince them to believe that He is the King of Kings. If they want to hear. That’s all. If they don’t, I am usually the first to shake the dust off of my feet, and it’s not my problem. I can do nothing for them.

There are only two kingdoms in this world, and few will make it to the one where I live. I can not get angry about this. On the contrary, it’s heartbreaking. People have free will that God gave them, and they are missing out on a free gift from God that they will never receive. From my perspective, I see a horror story. I see people drowning without any hope. They don’t have what I have even though I want them to have it. In the end, I can only work out my own salvation with fear and trembling because I have read His book. I know how it ends.”

Revelation 22:11-17

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

A Few Videos If You’re Interested

I’m not endorsing any of the individuals in these videos. I found them worth listening to for their content, offering another perspective. Remember, we are all sinners saved by the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, who took away the sins of the world. Always compare what you read here on Wicked Darkness or anywhere else to the Word of God, for Jesus alone is “the way, the truth, and the life.”

If you remember nothing else from the Bible, hold onto what Peter said to Jesus. These words can carry you through any experience in this world if you believe them and are sure of your faith.

John 6: 63-69: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
